Merit Selection of Judges
Until such merit selection becomes a reality, all candidates for elected judicial office should be permitted to cross-file.
We support retention elections for trial and appellate judges.
To put it in perspective: Pennsylvania is one of only six states that have partisan elections for state high courts and intermediate appellate courts and one of only 8 states that have partisan elections for trial courts.
Get an overview of what to consider when choosing a judge at the Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts website.
Go to <http://pmconline.org> and click on Choosing Judges. Then click on Judicial Elections, then FAQs and you will see What to Consider when Voting for a Judge. Choose "chart."
